There’s no doubt that awards shows are long-winded and usually boring. Every now and then, though, there comes a host who dares to lead an awards show with great humor, gravitas and yet, seemingly, without care. This year at the 67th Annual Golden Globes, comedian Ricky Gervais was that host.
Ricky Gervais has received a mixed response after fronting the 67th Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles - the first time the ceremony has had a host in 15 years. The 48-year-old certainly lived up to his promise to "give the A-listers a hard time". ...
And the British comedian drew even more laughs — and gasps! — when he took his hosting gig as an opportunity to roast Mel Gibson.
The 48-year-old drank a glass of beer on stage and admitted to the audience that he had already “had a couple” pints.
“I’m not going to lie to you, I hope I’ve not offended anyone — It’s not my fault,” he said before pointing to his beer. “I like a drink as much as the next man, unless the next man is Mel Gibson!”
